Just a recipe on how to make lemonade ...

Hi! I am Elvi. I live, work and play in New York City. Initially I started this blog to share my experiences with the world about my breast cancer diagnosis and the chemotherapy afterwards, but now (knock knock on wood) I just write about my everyday life encounters. I believe, that every experience in life can be turned into a positive one, hence the title ... When life gives you lemons make lemonade! (And I've made lots of it already!)

Money

I miss writing here in my little space on the web .. I really do. I miss pouring my heart out to the unknown audience and telling you all how much I appreciated that you came today to the fundraising party, that you donated towards my fundraising goal and how you really are on my mailing list because I put you there and that solicitation email did not get to you by a weird internet coincidence or a fault in the world wide web! You got it because you know me, don't you? Remember?
It's me: E-L-V-I!

Please don't take this anyone personally - I really am pissed of mainly at people who make billion times more money than me, have their apartment paid for by the government (Let's say $11 000/month for rent?!!!), don't have to pay taxes, are leading an organization (dysfunctional though it may be) and still can not donate $5. If I were you honey I'd donate just to shut me up, because I am certainly not the one who gives up! My skin grew so thick during this chemo and fundraising process that I could easily compete with a local homeless subway guy on 86th Street who annoys the heck out of me every morning by constant nagging! "Got a penny?"

Well, The Big Chief and Boobee Team Leader, Jenna informed the team that "It takes an average person 6 emails before they contribute!" and I am not intending to stop before this magical number. 2 more emails and 39 miles to go!

On the other hand, HUGE THANK YOU again to all who are supporting me either financially or emotionally - THANK YOU!

Yesterday we had a fundraiser at Latitude with a turnout of about 200 peeps. Most of them Jenna's friends, other boobee friends and a very few of my friends came also. (You all deserve a good spanking who never answered the evite or promised to come, but never made it! Will get even the next time I see you! :)
During the course of the afternoon I was introduced to this girl, Anna from Hungary who had no clue what is going on and so I explained her the noble cause, the fact that we are making money on the drinks and food that people consume and donating it, why I am involved and how important my boobs/her boobs/all boobs are to me!

She kept looking at me with eyes wide open and some sort of wonder in her face when she turns to me and says:
"So, how much are you making on this?"
I understood the question perfectly, yet in my surprise I responded:
"What do you mean how much?"

"You, know! Money! How much do you make on this event?"

"UUUhhhmmmmm ... zero, zip, nada!"
I said most proudly

... She was visibly taken aback ... Her face had an expression of a European tourist lost in a Japanese subway system .... I could see her mind swell in a whirlpool of thoughts tangled into each other .....

"Why the hell would you do that?"
"For free????"

I am glad the music was playing loud, because the quiet that followed was more bearable this way ...

"Yeap, for free!"

"But, but do you know where the money goes to?"
(If you're asking me if I am the Chief Financial Officer of Avon then the answer is NO! If you're asking if I know of projects and causes that the money goes to then I'd say YES!)

I smile ... Uhum, when I buy my penthouse on 5th Avenue with a pool and a terrace on the 56th Floor then you'll know! ;o)

(She smiles awkwardly ... )

"It would really be a great experience if you made money on it!" she says looking for my approval and a bit of enthusiasm from my part at a prospect of a huge bank account with my name on it.

"Yeah, it would! I could then contribute it to the breast cancer charity!"

.........................

She is leaving ... I give her two kisses Hungarian style - right cheek, left cheek a polite grin ...

I don't think she got it ... She left innocent, clueless, hungry and thirsty ...
Not a single drink!
